New opponents to face SCHS in 2013!
Saturday November 24, 2012
I have found out that three new opponents have been added to the 2013 schedule. Community, Stone Memorial and Silverdale Academy will replace York Institute, Meigs County and Whitwell from this past season.
Community High School is a Class A school located in Unionville, TN just to the NW of Shelbyville (Bedford Co.). CHS will be in District 9A next season the Vikings were (4-6) this past season. This may or may not be the first meeting between SCHS and CHS.
It will mark the first time that the Indians have faced Stone Memorial on gridiron. The Cumberland Co. school opened in 2006. The Panthers will be in District 6AAA in 2013 they finished 2012 with (2-9) record. The School is located on Cook Road near I-40 just north of Crossville.
Silverdale Academy (District 5A) will return to the SCHS schedule for the first time since 2008. The Seahawks finished off the best season in the programs young history with a (10-6) record and advanced to the 2nd round of the Class A playoffs. In four meetings against each other, Sequatchie Co. and Silverdale are tied with two wins each.
A lot will be made about Whitwell leaving the schedule but from everyone I have talked to it was the Tigers who wanted out, so they could add smaller schools to their schedule. I have heard that because of this SCHS will likely drop them in all sports beginning next school year but I have not been able to confirm this with anyone. Since 1995 Sequatchie County is (13-4) against the Tigers. Those four WHS wins came in back to back seasons of 2002-2003 and 2006-2007.
