About Alvin C. York Institute:

Alvin C. York Institute is located in Jamestown, TN (Fentress County) it was founded in 1926 by World War I hero and Medal of Honor recipient Sergeant Alvin C. York.

In 1937 the school was transferred to the State of Tennessee, which continues to operate it as a public high school.  It is the only comprehensive secondary school in the state that is financed and operated by the state government.

The Dragons football program is coming off a (2-8) record from 2011.   York is coached by former Bledsoe County head coach Dickie Brown. Brown was the head coach of the Warriors when Indians Head Coach Chad Barger was a student and player at BCHS.  Brown is 1-1 against his former student as the Dragons beat the Indians (28-16) in the 1st round of the playoffs in 2009.  However Barger got the upper hand last season in a (35-22) Indians win in Dunlap, thanks to three 2nd half touchdowns and defense who shut the Dragons out in the 2nd half.

The Dragons who finished 5th in District 8AA last season is once again projected to finish there again this fall.
