Alvin C. York Institute is located in Jamestown, TN (Fentress County) it was founded in 1926 by World War I hero and Medal of Honor recipient Sergeant Alvin C. York. In 1937 the school was transferred to the State of Tennessee, which continues to operate it as a public high school. It is the only comprehensive secondary school in the state that is financed and operated by the state government.
The Dragons football program is coming off a (4-6) record in 2010 in what was a rebuilding year after the 2009 season saw York advance all the way to the State Semifinals.
The Dragons however expect to return three players who were all district honorees last season.
York is coached by former Bledsoe County head coach Dickie Brown. Brown was the head coach of the Warriors when Indians Head Coach Chad Barger was a student and player at BCHS. Brown is 1-0 against his former student as the Dragons beat the Indians (28-16) in the 1st round of the playoffs in 2009.
