Indians look good in lightning shortened final scrimmage!

Friday, August 21, 2009

The Sequatchie County Indians came out strong Thursday evening defeating Lookout Valley in a shortened scrimmage/preseason game 21-0.

Lookout Valley came in to scrimmage the Indians in what was basically a preseason game they kept score on the scoreboard and coaches were on the sidelines with the headsets on. The game even had kickoffs the only difference the clock ran continuously and they were using 15 Minute quarters instead of the usual twelve for high school games.

This was the final scrimmage of the preseason for both teams as the Indians hit field next Friday night at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga to take on the Chattanooga Central Purple Pounders (Friday Aug. 28th @ 7:00 PM CT).

The Indians first score of the scrimmage came when Senior Quarterback Brennan Wilson hit fellow classmate Tight End, Ethan Hickman on about a 60 yard pass for the touchdown. Senior Kicker Lupe Martinez hit his 1st of 3 extra points on the evening.

The second Indian touchdown came when Junior Quarterback Hunter Lewis dropped his initial snap from center but picked the ball up and ran around 25-30 yards for the touchdown around the right side of the line. Martinez hit the XP to make 14-0.

The ensuing kickoff by Martinez went two yards deep in the end zone so Lookout Valley had to start at there own 20 yard line. The Yellow Jackets after a couple of timeouts and with time running out threw the ball deep but Lewis read the play and went up to intercept the ball after making one man miss he ran untouched 70 yards for the score as time ran out on the clock. Martinez 3rd XP made the score 21-0 in favor the Indians after a 10 minute halftime.

The Indians were looking to score again after recovering a Lookout Valley fumble on about the 25 yard line but the officials sent everyone to the locker rooms after lightning was seen in the area and the scrimmage was called shortly there after.

The Sequatchie defense looked very good forcing and recovering two fumbles and the one interception returned for a touchdown also a hard hit on a Yellow Jacket receiver just as he was about to catch the ball.

The offense also looked to be coming along with nice runs by Lewis and Wilson as well as by Senior Fullback Brandon Dykes.

The Indians now look to next Friday night against Chattanooga Central!
