Indians finish off season, but have bright future!

The Sequatchie County Indians finished off the 2008 season on a disappointing loss last night in Carthage to a very good Smith County team by a final score of 45-0.
However that being said I think these players should be congratulated because in my opinion I think overall it was a great year.

The Indians finish the season with an overall record of (6-5).

To the departing four year Seniors you deserve a big thanks, from a Indians fan thank you for putting Sequatchie County Football back on the map you fought through two tough and disappointing Sophomore and Junior seasons to turn your SCHS career and the program around. You finished the year with more wins than the previous three years combined. You make the playoffs for the first time in two years your also the first Indians team to win six games since the 2000 season.

To the returning players you have what it takes to win even more games next season but you as you saw in the game last night you need to hit the weight room and get bigger and stronger. Listen to your coaches and work hard to be better.

I think by my count (I could be wrong) the team should return 8 or 9 players if not more that started at least once on the offensive side of the ball. On defense at least 6 or 7 that have started they should also return the best place kicker to ever play for Sequatchie County. They also have a number of underclassmen who showed a lot of potential in the JV games the Indians played this season among them a number of promising lineman as well as running backs and receivers.

The unknown is the schedule this past season was the last season in Region 3-2A. The team next season will be in a new District as the TSSAA is going with Districts instead of regions. There will be A, AA, AAA for the regular season when the playoffs start the teams will be split from

A - 1A & 2A
AA - 3A & 4A
AAA - 5-A & 6-A

There will then be a total of Six State Champions crowned.

The TSSAA will be putting teams into new classifications for the 2009-2013. That will take place this coming Thursday at the TSSAA Board of Control meeting in Murfressboro. I will post the new districts as soon as I get them.

My projected district looks like this (!!This may not be anywhere close to the final one by TSSAA!!)

The number next too them is where they would play in the playoffs.

The Valley district?*

Bledsoe County - 3A
Chattanooga Christian - 3A
Grundy County - 3A
Notre Dame - 4A
Sequatchie County - 3A
Stone Memorial (Crossville) - 4A

Chattanooga district?*

Chattanooga Central - 4A
Brainerd - 4A
East Ridge - 4A
East Hamilton (new school in Ooltewah) - 4A
Howard - 3A
Hixson - 3A
Red Bank - 4A
Tyner Academy - 3A

Its possible you could see a Hixson or Red Bank in the valley district to give them both seven teams. That's if Stone Memorial is added to our areas district which makes since given its location in relation to the other AA schools to its East & West.
