The Sequatchie County Indians started off the Jamboree in quarter #2 taking on Grundy Co. just two days after basically having there way with the Jackets in the QB Club BBQ & Scrimmage on Tuesday so I assume Coach Barger wanted to see how the younger guys would do. Grundy County appeared to play their starters at least two series before also putting in the JV but before that they scored two touchdowns on the young Indians even though they played relatively well including picking off a pass
Grundy County = 14
Sequatchie Co. = 00
In the Indians final quarter of action it was a completely different story. Sequatchie put in the starters against the new Signal Mountain high. The Eagles who looked pretty good in the 3rd quarter against South Pittsburg when they scored first on the defending 1A state champs until the Pirates reeled off three straight scores.
The Eagles got the ball first and after a trick halfback pass (the same play that used to score on South Pitt) they were inside the Indains 50. The Eagles tried to score quickly but the Indians corner Junior Brett Bartley had other ideas as he goes up and takes the ball from the Eagles receiver at the three yard line. There was a penalty after the interception that would have the Indians getting the ball at the 1 yard line. On the Indians first offensive play Junior running back Brandon Dykes takes the hand off from Junior QB Brennon Wilson and goes 99 yards up the middle of the field for the score the extra point by Junior kicker Jose' Martinez was good good and it was quickly 7-0
The Indians would go on to score two more times on runs from (I think) Senior backs Brandon Ashby and J.L. Tate all of the Indians runners really hit the holes fast and hard with good runs by Bartley and Senior Jonathan Swafford. I'm sure there was a few more as well that I missed.
The Indians defense also played very well with a couple of sacks and some very hard hits on Signal Mountain players.
Sequatchie County = 20
Signal Mountain = 7
The Indians now get ready for the season opener on Friday night as Sequatchie County hosts the Tigers of Pigeon Forge.
